Why SharePoint is a Great Tool for Managing Business Data
SharePoint is an excellent software system for businesses that depend on efficient storage and management of data. It is a reliable and robust solution that can back up businesses, allowing them to focus on their core operations. SharePoint offers a range of features that make it easy to store, manage, and collaborate on information.
As a business owner, I have had experience in programming and creating custom-built software for business applications. However, developing software for myself would take a lot of time, and it would make more sense to change our service offerings and redefine our company as one that specializes in software development. But that was not my mission. I needed to have a reliable and robust software system that could back us up and let us focus on what we really wanted to do.
We had looked at some solutions that were available and popular like SAP, Oracle, and Syspro. Although each one of them is excellent and proven in the market, we were not at a stage to take on enormous development costs on what we could only perceive our businesses would need in future with regards to software, without ever having any previous experience in such a business, leaving a whole lot to guesswork.
Google Business Apps was the solution we adopted, but as our business grew, we realized that we were spending a lot of time trying to convert documents back and forth between Google document format and MS Office format. Although Google Apps had basic and useful apps, they were not well integrated, leaving the user having to hop from one app to the other. We needed something more synergistic.
That was when we heard about SharePoint. Although I was skeptical at first, I soon realized that SharePoint was the perfect solution to our integration dilemma. SharePoint had apps with similar functionalities to Google but with seamless communication between apps. It had everything we needed in terms of storage and collaboration.
The best part was the cost-effectiveness. We only added what we needed when we needed it, and there was an abundance of apps to play around with at no extra cost. SharePoint had so many pre-developed systems available for free that developers would charge an arm and a leg for in development costs.
SharePoint allowed us to provide different permission levels to individuals, groups, and departments, so we did not have to worry about sensitive information getting into the wrong hands. With all this up-to-date information in one place all the time, we created workflows that were intelligent and automated. Everything was connected and talking to each other, making decisions, taking actions - it was like having a CEO.
SharePoint allowed us to work offline when necessary and communicate on any device. It was a perfect solution to our integration dilemma, and we wondered why so many people did not know about it. SharePoint is an excellent tool for managing business data, and I highly recommend it.
